Dogs – man’s best friend, great at getting help if you’ve fallen down a mine shaft and so would seem, great surfers! Where else but in America would someone create a sport that involves sticking a dog in a pair of Hawaiian shorts and putting them out to sea on a surfboard? Australia…probably. One of those spectator sports that have to be seen to actually be believed, the surf dog competition held by Loews Coronado Bay in June is a fascinating insight into how crashing surf really does affect your brain. With sixty brave little surf-dudes out on the waves, the competition does have a purpose in raising money for charity but still it is odd feeling jealous watching a Jack Russell mastering the waves.
