The three 9th century vessels in Oslo’s Viking Ship Museum are the best preserved in the world. The Gokstad, Oseberg, and Tune were all used in royal burial ceremonies which facilitated their well-kept state. The boats themselves are priceless, exhibiting the craftsmanship of Viking builders, but the boats’ contents are just as exciting. The bones of Viking royalty and what remains of their burial furnishings after years of decay and grave-robbing are on display in the museum along with the boats.
