Like this generation’s Lady Di, people can remember where they were on that fateful day in November 1963 when they heard Kennedy had been shot dead during a motorcade in Dallas. Despite being one of the major news events of the 20th Century, there are still many unanswered questions about what happened that day and this confusion has kept people’s interest burning. The Sixth Floor Museum aims to clarify the facts for visitors and to commemorate the life and legacy of one of America’s most charismatic politicians. The museum has been set up on the floor of the former book depositary where the sniper’s nest and rifle were discovered after the assassination, which may sound a bit grim, but the overall tone is more factual than morbid and if you’re hoping to see the famous Zapruder film of the president’s death you’ll only get to see the non-violent parts. Other artefacts making up the collection include other footage, newspaper reports, cameras in use on the day, a model of the motorcade route and an imitation snipers nest set up in front of the famous window.
