Money can be an issue when travelling and experience everything, but Tokyo's Suginami Animation Museum is completely free. The Suginami Animation Museum is where more than 70 animation production companies gather and work on anime. The workshops and exhibits are great for all ages.
As you walk into the history exhibit, there is a huge timeline tracing the history of animation. Inside the history exhibit you can watch a feature-length anime film. This area has video footage and an easy description of Japanese amine's history. The workshop room has many hands-on exhibits and digital workshop, where you can add colour to the picture and then set them into motion. You can venture into a couple processing and recording rooms, where you become the voice actor. There's a microphone and a screen on the wall and you can either be Black Jack or Pinoko from Tezuka Osamu's film, Black Jack. After recording your lines, they are played right back to you. As you walk up the stairs, there is a theatre where anime films are played on a 150-inch screen, and a library that has books and documents that can be read or you can watch filmed interviews with anime directors and producers.
The museum is open from 10-18:00 everyday except on Monday.
