The sheer size of this collection can make it a bit overwhelming considering it doesn't have a reputation for having the clearest directions around it – there are wardens but no guides – but that's the way the collection is supposed to be displayed; it's the personal collection of Dr. Fredrico de Freitas, and displayed as it's always been in his house. Starting out as a hobby, the solicitor's collection of artefacts and antiques found locally and further afield grew and grew into the kind of collection a museum would be happy with.

The house was built in the 18th century and was opened to the public as a museum for its contents in 1988. The highlights of the collection are the decorative tiles, collected from Turkey, North Africa and Spain, sacred paintings and ceramics and porcelains including more than 2000 mugs, trophies and vases.
