The Self Centre differs in two major ways to the classic spa: firstly, it isn’t about beauty. Some of the treatments involve physical aspects such as acupressure or assisted yoga, but they are all about inner loveliness and are designed to help with relaxation, self-confidence, relationship management and other life skills. The second surprise is the light-heartedness of the whole experience. The founder, Jan Kinder, has a background in psychology, Ayurveda, music therapy and yoga and she is a pioneer in the field of vibrational medicine. Breathwalking, chakra meditation, qi gong and astrology are just a few of the many therapies you can experiment with at the centre, and the eclectic combination of ancient cultural roots and modern schools of thought make for a genuinely enjoyable holistic approach. Couples’ and family therapy is a particular strong point, and you can even have a business astrology reading.
If you find that your mind is de-cluttered enough, you could try a nature walk to discover the medical properties of plants, or a ‘stargazing’ astronomy session – both doubly worthwhile, as they allow you to enjoy the wonderfully colourful, natural surroundings and views of the Virgin Islands National Park.
