This is one of the world highest resorts, it’s totally above the treeline, so the snow is always good. The off side of this is that when visibility is bad it’s just do dangerous to go out anywhere. There’s some great runs, Cime de Carons’ best for speed and Orele is the steepest. I found some excellent freeriding runs and I was thrilled on two of the clearest days to be able to see for miles and miles. Val Thorens also has five parks, I only had time to try three but they were all pretty well designed. Val Thorens is supposed to be pretty busy in season so book in early if you want to board on some of the highest slopes possible.
