Åre

Scandinavia is really high up, right? So snow and ice and what not right? So why are do people ski Europe:ski the Alps? Who knows. Åre is Sweden’s biggest and most organised resort and full of Swedes up for the weekend from Stockholm. But on the weekdays there is plenty of space to lay your tracks all over the spaciously empty wide gullies, dodging the trees, round a big, pretty frozen lake. Modern resort but primitive T-bar lifts, but they suit the windy conditions better than pods would. Try the reindeer steak. But do it before you go on a reindeer sleigh ride like father Christmas or you won’t be able to stomach it.
