Butterfly fish, surgeons, tang, wrasse, squirrel fish, big eyes, snappers, jacks, damsel fish and tang are just some of the fish which crowd around the warmer (clean) water pipes releasing water from the nearby electric plant at Kahe Point. Off shore where the water is clean, coral grows in this warm section (only a few degrees more than the surrounding ocean) and marine life feeds off it creating a kind of impromptu reef. Open water so better for snorkelers with some experience this spot is perfect for learning to scuba dive if you’re looking to go a bit deeper than usual. Watch the crowding schools from above don’t get too close, the pipe currents can be quite strong.
