A cove sheltered by a half submerged wall of rock near the town of Kailua Kona, this spot is popular with fish. Turtles and schools of surgeon love the clear, shallow water and the rock wall keeps the fish at the top of the food chain out. This is a really good spot for beginners, it’s really shallow which means it’s safer and also that the coral on the lava bottom get plenty of sunshine. There are a few sandy entry points where fish congregate for the food but the water is clearer further out where the bottom is rocky and you have a good chance of taking some excellent photos. When the tide goes out rock pools are revealed which are safe for even small children.
