Until the 1950’s, Kefalari used to be in the countryside, and this elegant, 3-storey building the country quarters for wealthy Athenians. Now greater Athens has engulfed these suburbs, but the atmosphere is still far less grimy and far more genteel. Being near the end of the city train line means you can get into the centre or to Piraeus quickly and easily. So day trips to the Acropolis, Kaisariani monastery, Marathon beach or Aegina island are perfectly feasible.
