Boutique-hotel luxury in Robert Duvall’s exquisite colonial estancia outside the colonial city of Salta

Down a long drive of magnificent eucalyptus trees, a typical estancia building emerges: white adobe, tiled roof, jasmine-covered. But step inside and gasp with delight: first, at the sweet fragrance of roses – bowls of them fill the whole house - then, at the sense of cloistered calm, as you enter through heavy white curtains and discover a cosy lounge with open fires, a bright breakfast room looking onto the gardens, an intimate dining room, and an airy garden room. All exquisitely decorated in whites and creams, with delicate details, bold rugs giving a splash of colour, indigenous weavings, gaucho tack and cow hides hinting at the traditional origins of this 120 year old colonial estancia.

Outside, grounds of 300 acres include a pool, a river and an avenue of 100 year old trees, and are fringed with the foothills of the far-off Andes. Upstairs, there are just seven very private bedrooms, all with bathrooms and delightful views. Add an excellent spa, and you have a really unique experience in Argentina’s northwest.
