Despite being one of Europe's most southern countries, Macedonia is a fantastic place for skiing and has some enviable resorts. One of the most popular resorts is Popova Shapka which is just over 1800m high and located on the southern slopes of Sar Planina. It is not far from the capital and has excellent skiing facilities. The resort has been host to European championships and the range is 80km long and about 12km wide, making it the most popular resort in the country. The nearby town of Tetovo is steeped in history and there is quick and easy transport between the resort and the town. The area is a definite destination for nature enthusiasts and the area boasts bears, boars and deer.
