Obertauern receives greater than average snowfall due to its high elevation which equals a much longer ski season than other Austrian resorts, averaging from the end of November to the beginning of May. Best suited to beginner and intermediate skiers the resort is set high up in front of one of those Austrian chocolate box views. The lift system is good and the airport is close by so it’s relatively easy to access.

The world class cross country ski trails are well marked and despite their popularity not usually too crowded and their challenge is nicely varied to appeal to different abilities and tastes. Huts dot the ways as you leave the resort proper and are comfortably appointed around the town offering a charmingly authentic warmth reminiscent of ski chalet photos of the 1950’s. Don’t worry though, the snow park for snowboard enthusiasts has a much more modern air to it and features all the mod cons you expect from beginner to expert standard.
