Slovenia is a tiny country (roughly half the size of Switzerland) but it has some good skiing resorts located on the Julian Alps. The premier resort of Kranjska Gora lies at an altitude of around 800 metres and the highest point for skiing is 1,291metres. The resort itself is situated in the beautiful Zgornjesavska Valley and is within easy reach of the Austrian and Italian borders. It has attained worldwide acclaim and hosts World Cup competitions in Alpine skiing as well as ski flights on the impressive ski jump in Planica. The village itself is surrounded by the imposing Julian Alps and the views are exceptional. The resort mainly caters for intermediate skiers with over 30km of intermediate runs. However, there are more challenging runs for more advanced skiers as well as easier slopes for the less experienced. The resort shares all the majestic views and great skiing with its Alpine neighbours at a fraction of the cost, making it an increasingly popular and prosperous resort.
