Long runs are the special appeal of this resort, which covers beautiful alpine country between 1,000 and 3,000 metres above sea level, from the glacier of Titlis down. The cross country or Nordic skiing opportunities are also many with numerous routes to choose from. The natural surroundings are some of the loveliest you can find surrounding a ski resort so if you have never before considered a cross country excursion this may be a suitable location for your first foray.

Engelberg is close enough to Lucerne and Zurich for a weekend excursion so if you’re planning a longer holiday you’ll find much quieter slopes mid week than on the weekend, but there is ample space despite the feeling that this resort is a small traditional Swiss town rather than a heaving resort complex.

Even non-skiers will be impressed by the tunnel though the ice of the glacier.
