Any street which has stores where security guards open the door to you, or you have to buzz to be let in is inviting only a select clientele. But that doesn’t mean you can’t go in. You may have to be happy to absorb or bounce off the looks which disapprove of your attire or general demeanor, but if you can afford to go to the Tower of London to see the crown jewels, a trip down Bond Street doesn’t have to cost you anything.

Designer stores line both sides of the quiet street. Gucci, Donna Karen, Armani, Cartier, Chanel, Bulgari, Asprey, Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Sotherbys, Jimmy Choo, Georg Jensen…why am I mentioning them, they don’t need my advertising as well. Windows gleam rich and invitingly on both sides of the street, jewels sparkle, as do some dresses. Nice for a stroll and a dream if you’ve got that materialistic streak that craves big sparkly stones and cashmere soft fabrics that are probably more expensive than cashmere. Not really the place most of us can pick up our ‘bits’.
