Taiwan has some of the best diving in Asia according to Andy Gray, long time Taiwan resident and owner of Taiwan Dive. There are a number of excellent dive sites, and an enormous variety of marine life. This includes some rather special visitors: every year between December and March there is opportunity to dive with schooling hammerhead sharks off of Green Island.
The sharks hang out at about 25 to 35 metres. If you are lucky, upwards of 80-100 hammerheads may swim by just metres away. This is an extremely dangerous place to dive though, and most Taiwanese dive operators won’t take you unless you can speak Mandarin. Luckily, if you have the experience (100+ dives) and give him enough notice, Andy may be able to arrange a trip for you.
