The sporadic Sporades, my children hated it when I said that, but that’s what they are, are very green with part rocky, part sandy coastlines, and the water is every shade under the sun from deep blues to bright greens.

These islands boast about their perfect beaches being some of the best in the Med and people hear their call and set up their towels and deck chairs here, but on your own vessel you won’t have to worry about the crowds, you can find your own secluded section of sand.

Fishing used to be one of the main businesses here, probably still is, so the main towns are well set up to be ports, especially Skiathos town, Skppelos town and Patitiri. Prime island hopping real estate, most people sail out of Skiathos, which has an airport, then just mooch around the other islands in the group.

Not all of them have water or fuel, but most of them have tavernas. In seven days we hopped to Tosougria, Skopelos, Alonissos, Pelagos and Agnondas. Skopelos is the largest island in the group and has something like 300 churches and monasteries and chapels, most beautiful white ones with enchanting frescos, as well as olive groves and larger towns. We stopped on this island twice, the second time we stayed two nights and did a bit more drinking in the tavernas and pottering around the countryside.
