Hiram Bingham thought the unusual large three window design of this temple were significant proof of how important Machu Picchu was to the Incas. In front of the windows there's a tall pillar and a stone that looks like a tombstone with steps on the top which archaeologists thing might be there to symbolise the mountains in the background though the windows.

It's suggested that this is the royal section of the complex where nobility stayed. This would have been a large building – some of the lintel stones weigh several tons – so it's a particularly impressive feat of architecture deserving of its royal inhabitants.
