For the truly American road trip experience, hit US 163 for a ride along the Monument Valley.

This desert drive spans the Southwest from Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in Kayenta, Arizona, to Utah among some of America's most famous scenery. Drive for miles surrounded by nothing more than desert, with towering red mesas and the crumbling sandstone formations rising from the otherwise empty landscape. At first you’ll be tempted to pull off for a photo op every few miles, overwhelmed by the beauty of the fiery monuments as the light changes their colours: this scenery harks back to when the west was won and all the glory and excitement of westward expansion, making the most inexperienced of road trippers feel like Lewis and Clark, exploring uncharted landscape. So turn up the radio, charge up your camera battery and leave the map at home because this trip is about getting lost in thought in the quiet solitude of the desert.
