The mods and rockers used to use this route along the A23 then M23 from sooty old London down to happening beach-side Brighton. It was mods on scooters and mopeds and rockers on motorbikes – all of them with girls on the back, assuming the girls didn't have their own bikes – and all of them off for the weekend to have a good time and maybe a bit of a punch up. What? Haven't you seen 'Quadrophenia'? If not you should see it before you set off - Sting is in it.

This may be a fairly straight forward route though fields along quite bog standard roads – it doesn't have to be there are some pretty B roads – but any journey out of the work-a-day city towards to coast screams out freedom and 'Road Trip!' This is the holiday you can have in an afternoon – and many families do, and have done since the motorcar was invented. For something really impressive time your trip to coincide with a classic car rally – this route is a favourite for classic car enthusiasts as well as mods, rockers, shovel and pail families and boys who like boys.
