The Going-to-the-Sun Road is one of the most spectacular alpine drives in the world. Built as a civil engineering project during the Great Depression, the road crosses the continental divide at Logan Pass in Montana's stunning Glacier National Park. The road ascends steeply past lakes, waterfalls and wildflowers with fantastic views on both sides. In the middle of summer, travel is often slow due to the high popularity of this amazing drive, but going slow provides greater opportunities for spotting wildlife such as bear and moose which are commonly seen by the road. There are wonderful hiking trails here but be sure to carry "bearspray" (capsicum spray) as this area is notorious for bear attacks. The road is usually open from June through September only.

it was exhilarating, frightening, inspiring, and freezing cold with snow blowing all over in mid July. The mountain air was exhilarating, the road itself was narrow and harrowing, frightening enough at times to make me close my eyes; but the beauty was inspiring and breathtaking, incredible in depth of valleys and height of peaks with wild animals so virtually untouched by man that deer, mountain goats, some animals I thought I recognized but called by unfamiliar names passed right at arms length or near our ankles without even a glance. Be prepared for weather, all kinds of weather! Ir was freezing and we were only somewhat prepared. We would go again and will not forget a most wonderful, remarkable sensory extravaganza!

Sounds amazing. Did you travel the whole route? if not where did you get on and off?

Going to the road to the sun,Glacier Park

My companion is terrified of driving on narrow roads at high elevations. How can I best appease her fear when driving west to east on going to the sun road, National Glacier Park?
