The Colorado Scenic Byway has been designated as part of the Utah Scenic Byways Program. The byway follows the Colorado River and is broken up into the upper and lower Colorado Scenic Byways.

The Upper Colorado Scenic Byway is SR-128 and the Lower Colorado Scenic Byway is SR-279. Today the whole of this byway is used as a scenic drive for visitors to the area. The road begins a bit north of Moab, Utah. The locals refer to the byway as “the river road”. The road is popular with recreational activities as well as simple driving and it spans across many popular natural attractions.
