Listed under Road Cycling in Taiwan.
Cycle from coast to coast across the mountainous spine of Taiwan on the Southern Cross-Island Highway.
Starting on the west coast in the southern port town of Kaoshiung, spend the day climbing to the aboriginal mountain village of Meishan. The road up is out of this world – after the hotspring town of Baolai, it becomes a narrow, two-lane highway that climbs up into some of the most beautiful scenery Taiwan has to offer.
Day two is an intense, all day ride up and over the 2722m summit at Yakou. The weather and visibility are always worse in the mountains so come prepared.
Day three is a comfortable ride to the east coast and south into Taidong City. High mountain passes, beautiful scenery and friendly locals make for a great trip. Just watch out for tour buses.
