The Lena’s delta in the New Siberia Islands covers a vast area and is frozen tundra for half the year but in the warmer weather it converts into lush wetlands called the Lena Delta Wildlife Reserve. Due to its cycle of regular freezing some interesting archaeological finds have turned up near the banks of the Lena.

Droplets of run off water from the snow and ice of the Baikal Mountains begin the journey of the Lena river and end their passage in the Arctic Ocean.
