At The French Laundry, the familiar dish of ‘Macaroni Cheese’ is a surprisingly intricately crafted creation- “ butter poached Maine lobster served with mascarpone-enriched Orzo Pasta” (theworlds50best.com)- which is just one example of the pure artistry awaiting guests. Located just north of San Fransisco in the scenic Napa Valley, the philosophy at The French Laundry is that a great meal is an “emotional experience” and a “journey that returns you to sources of pleasure you may have forgotten” (frenchlaundry.com).
Dining is in the restaurant, or at the garden tables in good weather. Experiencing the innovative French-influenced American cuisine is to take a ride on “chef Thomas Keller's culinary magic carpet” (travel.nytimes.com). The chefs create a nine course tasting menu twice daily, incorporating seasonal veg and ingredients like black bass, sautéed frogs legs, peking duck and white sturgeon caviar. The French Laundry has firmly taken a seat as one of the world’s best restaurants, which has made getting a reservation somewhat tricky. Two months in advance is the correct time to book.
