This yachting race is for wooden yachts of both modern and traditional design. Most of the boats competing are the white sailed gulets this part of the Aegean and Mediterranean are known for. You can imagine how pretty that sight is going to be – but you needn’t only imagine it, held in the third week of October this is one of the few opportunities most of us have to be involved in a sailing race, and you’re able to take part as a member of crew or just tag along for the ride.

The route is lined with charming and historic coves and while this is a gorgeous region for a sailing holiday in other months of the year, there’s a lot of camaraderie and additional entertainment – especially under clear night skies – while the regatta is on. The point is to keep the traditional look of the local boats alive and give landlubbers a chance to try something they may only otherwise see on TV.

if you simply want to watch from dry land check out the best accommodation options at The Hotel Guru.
