Rafting the Rio Cotahuasi

Listed under Rafting in Peru.

Running through the deepest canyon in the world is this magnificent river, only relatively recently opened up to rafters (since 1994). This remote river features 120km of continuous Class IV to V rapids. Not for the faint-hearted, and definitely for experienced rafters only, the two day walk-in is rewarded with 6 days of world class rapids, in a spectacular setting, flanked on both sides of the river by largely unexplored and unspoilt Inca ruins.

Rafting The Cotahuasi

The River is top notch. But the hike is only one day (about 6 hours). This is the most continuous river I have ever been on. There is very rarely any flat water. I think that being an experienced rafter is not really necessary. It is important to be an adventurous person who is in good enough shape to make the moderate hike.
