The American River give a good variety of large and small whitewater action, along with great camping and recreational activities in the Sierra Mountains. The American River can accommodate to all ages and skill levels, from beginner first-time trips to class IV-V advanced stretches.

The American River is like many other rivers in the US, in that it has many different sections or parts of the river that offer different experiences. The nice part about the American River is that you can have your choice of mild whitewater to high-adventure whitewater.

I love the Sierra Mountains and the setting that the American River offers. Their are also a lot of recreational places along the whole river (parks, campgrounds, historical sites) which makes it a great place to visit and spend time in the area outside of the rafting.

My favorite part of the American River are the larger rapids. You get some great big rapids here and there, but not too many. It is not a "non-stop" rush of rapid after rapid. You get some calm stretches in between the rapids, which makes the ride a little nicer. Sometimes you do wish you have a few more large rapids on the trips though, but still a good trip to take.
