Edgar Allen Poe was called America's Shakespeare with good reason. He wrote short stories, detective fiction, science fiction, lyric poetry and horror stories. The Poe Museum was opened in 1922 and is only a few blocks away from Poe's first Richmond home and former place of employment, the Southern Literary Messenger.

The museum has the largest and finest collection of Edgar Allen Poe's original stories, memorabilia, personal belongings, manuscripts, letters and first editions. The Poe Museum also gives insight into life during the 19th century Richmond.

The museum contains such exhibits as a Model of Richmond in Poe's Time, Poeana, Personal Items, Furniture, Fine Art, Photographs, First Editions, Manuscripts, Memorabilia, Reference Library, The Enchanted Garden and more! The museum is open every day except for Monday and prices range from $5-$6 without membership.
