This beautiful castle is located in Strathmore valley next to the village of Glamis, and is entirely surrounded by wild, rolling hills.
Best known as the childhood home of the Queen Mother, it is architecturally very impressive and has an air of romance and fantasy about it, generated by the tall turrets, statues and formal gardens.
Adjacent to the atmospheric Victorian dining room is the crypt which, according to local myth, contains access to a secret chamber where an Earl Crawford is said to have lost his soul to the Devil in a game of cards. The game is reportedly re-enacted in the chamber still, and sounds of swearing and rattling dice are often heard there.
The Grey Lady who supposedly haunts the chapel is believed to have been Janet Douglas, falsely accused of witchcraft by James V and burned at the stake.
