Safety

I have been reading a lot about the security situation in Colombia.

For example allegedly there are no go areas, how true is this and how safe is Santa Marta, Tayrona Park , Taganga beach etc.

Many thanks

Tayrona National Park

Near to Santa Marta, this national park could be a new chapter of The Jungle Book. If Kipling had visited Columbia, tales of dusky monkeys, red squirrels, coloured peccaries, Caribbean toucans and jaguars all living together would come alive on a page. At the foot of the mountains, archaeological sites left by Tayrona’s indigenous tribes spread across the leafy terrain. Sprawling around the curve of the white sand beach, palm trees and sculptured boulders act as gates only letting those who really wish to relax enter. Once you’ve arrived, don’t rush your visit, you’re able to sleep in the beach’s hammocks, campsite or even in one of the eco houses close to the sea. Underwater currents are strong here, so swimming is not for the faint hearted. This area has long been described as one of the wildest and most beautiful corners of South America.
