A little bit of green and a lot of blue are both all along the way in exploring the French side of the island of St. Martin on horseback.  The beach at Orient Bay is one of the finest in the eastern Caribbean, and along with that, a nearby marine preseve provides the visiting rider with an interesting sight of eco-conscious effort in this part of the world.  The outfitter to ride with here is Bayside Riding Club, located on rue de Galion Bay near the Butterfly Farm, and which offers a variety of outings lasting from one to two hours.  The wide strip of white sand that stretches some two kilometers along turquoise Orient Bay varies from quiet and pleasant to developed and busy, but all of it is worth seeing and savoring.  The rides that include the trail through the island's Nature Marine Reserve provide a pristine look at the bird and wildlife of the island along with the low growth vegetation of the region.  The highlight of the beach portion of the ride along the northeast section of St. Martin is swimming with the horses out into the crystal clear shallows of the bay.

Riding groups are kept small at Bayside, with no more than seven riders participating on any ride.  Everyone is equipped with a helmet.  You can also tailor your shoreline ride as a romantic sunset beach ride for just two. Prefer something even at a later hour, and they can also arrange a full moon ride for you.  Additionally, Bayside provides riding lessons from beginner level to advanced jumping or dressage.  Pony rides and lessons are available for children.  Among the most pleasant times to be out and discovering St. Martin's coast line on horseback is between mid-December and mid-April, when you will catch some cooling tradewinds that can offset the glare of the sun.
