Small in miles but geographically diverse, St. Kitts provides plenty to see on horseback along its largely unspoilt landscape. The island is made up of grassy coastal areas, wide beaches, and a mountainous rainforest interior replete with ferns and tall tree growth. Brilliant flora punctuate the green and scrub, including hibiscus, plumeria and chains-of-love along roadside and home gardens. The most common land inhabitant that you may come away remembering is the usually shy vervet or green velvet monkey.

Beach riding is routed on the Atlantic coastal side of the island, and takes you along fine sands bordered by occasional rock and wild scrub. A guided horseback tour to the high mountain rain forest will last up to three hours and along the way you may encounter island birds, primeval forest trees, spectacular giant ferns and the wild green velvet monkey.

The riding stable providing outings is Trinity Stables, and their guides do the commentary on the fauna and flora of the island interior. The other inland option they offer is a ride over the mountains on unmarked trails. Again, this may last upwards of three hours. Refreshment is provided, but you bring along your own sunblock or insect repellent. Previous riding experience not required on any of their outings, the horses are well-mannered and often have an interesting mix of bloodline.
