Listed under Countryside in New England, United States.
Dubbed 'leaf peeping' (in a slightly derogatory manner), the activity of driving at a distinctly leisurely pace along New England's forest roads in Autumn is quite probably the region's oldest visitor pursuit.
Every year, between September and November, nature dresses in a quite incredible array of colours, which appears first in the north and then moves steadily southward throughout the season, like a gradual parade of silent fireworks – yellow, ochre, umber, russet, purple and every possible shade in between.
If you're planning a trip to see it, the Foliage Network offers leaf forecasts and reports online to help you locate peak season during specific periods, so you can research what else you want to see and do in the corresponding area in advance.
