Wild Dogs have proven to be some of the most difficult animals to relocate to Game Reserves, partly because they find it difficult to compete with other predators, and because of this they are becoming increasingly rare. One of the few successful Wild Dog programs is in the Madikwe Game Reserve where a part wild, part captive bred group of dogs were released in 1995. Other dogs have been successfully introduced and there are now two dog packs living in the park.
Wild Dogs have complicated rituals and relationships with each other making them interesting to watch. They also hunt over long distances and despite their size, dog packs can devour their prey within minutes, making sure that all of the pack feed on their allotted amount.
