The waters around Baie Ste-Catherine are home to hundreds of beluga and minke whales, who host their larger migratory cousins, humpbacks and blue whales during the migrating season between June and October.
The minkes especially are known for putting on a show, with plenty of spraying, leaping and tail splashing, while the graceful white belugas, with their friendly looking faces, seem to glide through the water and sidle up to boats.
You can get a good view of whale antics from the shore, however there are plenty of companies that run cruises that will get you in amongst the action and provide you with the chance to get on familiar terms with one of these elegant ocean giants.

This is a totally unreal experience. Make sure you go with a company using smaller inflatable boats, not the huge, glass-bottomed, monstrosities. This way you will get closer to the whales (often see them going just underneath your boat) but your presence will cause them less disruption. Steer clear of the companies with a bad reputation for getting too close to the whales....
