Amid the beautiful natural setting of the Great Barrier Reef, Heron Island attracts wildlife of all kinds and in every season; it's on the Humpback Whale migration path as well as the route of many migrating bird species. Birds and turtles build their nests here and some of the whales will bring their calves to feed on the coral plankton of the island's surrounding reefs. There are also clouds of coloured fish and bright, living coral in striking formations to impress the eye.
Heron Island is a small but pristine coral cay, with a tropical forest interior and white sandy beaches, perfect for diving, snorkelling, walking and living out your tropical island daydreams. There is limited accommodation on Heron Island, so it is best to plan which wildlife you’d most like to experience and arrange your travels around nature's cycle of life.
