The Custer State Park sprawls over 71,000 acres and is home to one of the largest bison populations in world: they say there's around 1,300. Cowboys, cowgirls and park crews round up the buffalo annually, usually on a Monday in late September or early October - and this round up is open to the public to watch.

This yearly display allows the bison population to be controlled, vaccinated and branded. Concessions are sold in area one breakfast at 6:15am and lunch at 2pm, once the bison are locked in the gate. The area also has other events happening around the year including the Arts Festival, Chili Cook-Off and exhibits.
