A non-profit museum housed in a Queen Anne-style Victorian home, the Tread of Pioneers Museum houses artifacts (including a large firearms collection) from all frontier lifestyles. Unlike many larger, regional museums, the Tread of Pioneers Museum has a uniquely local focus first and regional relevance second. Focusing on Steamboat Springs is certainly justifiable with its rich Western history and visits from famed Westerners including Jeff Bridger, Kit Carson and Butch Cassidy.

At the museum, learn about pioneering, ranching and mining in Routt County, explore the History of Skiing exhibit or view the Native American arts display. Featured educational aspects cover agricultural history and the story of outlaw Harry Tracy. Interactive exhibits, a Kids Scavenger Hunt, oral history library, local history library and historic photograph collection are other museum highlights.
