This park surrounds a giant Andean ice cap, the largest outside of the Arctic Circle or Antarctica, which feeds out onto 47 glaciers, creating a dramatic carved up, rocky mountain landscape. Thirty percent of the park is under ice. Two vast lakes cover another large proportion. This whole area is a climber's and trekker's paradise - Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre are in the north while the south of the park has the Perito Moreno Glacier and the Upsala Glacier.
The environment on the outside of the mountains is arid but is still home to grey foxes, guanacos, cougars, and over a thousand bird species, including eagles and condors. These are the world’s lowest glaciers and have some of the easiest access points as they flow as far as 200ms above sea level.
You can enter the park by land or on a boat, which is the best way to see some of the glaciers and the icebergs the park is also known for.
