The Pinnacles are like stalagmites growing free range – yellow limestone towers and castles in the desert of yellow sand. So that this landscape looks like it's another planet. How the pinnacles came to 'grow' is a mystery – but they're thought to have developed inside trees that later died.

The Pinnacles are part of the Nambung National Park – the nearest town to which is Cervantes. Come up here for the crazy, other worldy landscape, but prepare to have a bit of fun getting around on the dunes – which is the best way to experience this strange place. The wood of stone is best seen in the morning or evening because the colours and shadows appear more dramatic.
