Covering the slopes of the Sierra de Luquillo Mountains in lush greenery, this tropical rainforest park includes El Toro, the island’s tallest mountain within its borders.

Not only is it generously proportioned, El Yunque was generously protected by King Alfonso XII of Spain as early as 1876, which helped to preserve the twenty or so strong species of endemic wildlife that live only here and the 200 other species and 250 different plants also thriving.

At the El Portal Tropical Forest Centre – the park's visitor centre – there are exhibits and interactive displays providing plenty of background information on El Yunque.
