Few people associate diamond mining with Southwest Arkansas, but that is the lure of Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. A large field, plowed in rows, is designed to accommodate people digging for gems with a vast array of tools including screens, shovels, and buckets.

Although few of the diamonds found in the park are actually valuable in the traditional sense (the worth of a diamond depends on its possibility of being cut), the process and product make for a unique souvenir from a fun outing. Not only are visitors invited to dig for diamonds, but other amenities such as a campground, hiking trails, and a small water park are available.
