The Capitol Reef National Park is 100 miles long and extremely narrow. It is open all year round with the most popular months being May through September.

The Waterpocket Fold is a narrow stretch, known as a monoclinal fold, and gives the park its shape and distinctive landscape.

The park is named for the United States capital because of its resemblance to it. Parts of the structure are still nearly impassable but there are scenic driving routes where you get a good view of the park and its natural beauty.
