Abisko and the National Park named after it, are at the top of Swedish Lapland, bordering on the Norwegian border.  This is perfect Northern Light show country – 195kms north of the Arctic Circle, and with very, very little rainfall this is a place of cold, cloud-free skies.

The Kungsleden Trail runs through the park, starting just out of Abisko town, so there are actually quite a few amenities around, as well as the scientific research centres.  In the summer hikers njoy the benefit of the midnight sun.

The park was created to preserve some of the habitat called Nordic Fell, a habitat which is studied at the Absiko Scientific Research Station which was built in the park – and now also provides a hub for visitors to the park.
