While a trumpet festival may not sound cool, you'd be really, really wrong if you thought this festival was a bunch of old trumpet players blowing off. More than 600,000 people converge on Guča, population 2,000, for this free event and competition – oh yes, it's not just a three day festival but a competition as well.
On the traditional side you have competing orkestras, playing three folk tunes each which dancers in national dress dance to, and on the other side you have the kind of world music fuelled party that has been said to trump Glastonbury and the Burning Man for atmosphere, just with a lot more brass. Have a look at the clips on youtube if you're still not convinced that this is one of the coolest events around.
Guča's trumpet celebration takes place annually in early August.
