This festival was created with a specific mission in mind – to promote peace though music, music coming from the traditions of a variety of faiths. The idea came out of the conflict of the first Gulf War in the 90s and the now annual even runs for a week in lovely, ancient Fes. Previous festivals have hosted whirling dervishes, dancing monks from Tibet, Gospel groups from the US, Russian Orthodox choirs, Berber trance music, Celtic quartets and Hindustani chanting. The main point is that it’s peaceful, inclusive and pluralistic – and that it dissolves boundaries though a shared appreciation of music.
