Tate Britain (so named after the collection was split in 2000 with the opening of Tate Modern) contains the national collection of British painting from 1500 to the present. It's an unrivalled collection, with significant holdings by every major British artist - Constable, Gainsborough, Hodgin, Hogarth and Rossetti among them. The Clore Gallery is devoted to J.M.W. Turner; Tate Britain hosts major temporary exhibitions including the controversial annual Turner Prize exhibition.
